The principal responsibility of the Regional Head of Forensic Identification is to lead and co-ordinate the provision of regional forensic identification, analysis and submission services and to lead on compliance and continuous development to deliver an integrated forensic identification, enhancement and analysis strategy for the four forces of the region.
Lead on Forensic Identification services, including Fingerprint Bureau, Forensic Custody Sampling, Forensic Submissions, Fingerprint Enhancement Laboratory, Footwear Intelligence, for the SW region ensuring service provision meets the demands of the forces, providing accountability, leadership and direction and that victims receive a quality service. Be accountable for the regional sections of the National - Fingerprint, Footwear, DNA, and Police Elimination, Databases, ensuring data integrity is maintained; working with Custody to achieve effective forensic custody sampling.
Act in an advisory capacity and provide internal consultancy support to the Director of SW Forensic Services on all matters pertaining to regional Forensic Identification Services and provide expert knowledge, technical and strategic advice and guidance to policing across the SW region. Set a vision, manage resources and finance across the Forensic Identification Services Teams, ensuring good practices identified, force and PCC priorities and targets delivered, future national, regional and local changes to strategy and processes delivered and procedures quality assured.
Provide effective leadership, strategic direction and line management support to Fingerprint Bureau, Footwear Intelligence, Fingerprint Enhancement Laboratory, and Forensic Submissions Teams (across the two hubs) ensuring the recruitment of suitably qualified staff, the delivery of appropriate training, maintenance of professional competency and succession-planning across the region.
Responsible for the effective management of the national, regional and force fingerprint and footwear capture and search facilities/databases, and footwear intelligence systems.
Lead and motivate staff to deliver an excellent forensic identification service to the SW regional forces; working collaboratively with regional partners, encouraging a culture that embraces change, collaboration and continuous improvement across multiple sites.
Shortlisting is due to take place 26th May 2023 with interviews planned for week commencing 5th June 2023.

This role has been identified as a blended role.
The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.
