About Armstrong Watson LLP

As an expanding business with 19 offices at present, Armstrong Watson LLP is a leading independent accountancy firm ranked in the top 35 firms of accountants and business advisers.

With approximately 550 colleagues, our people and our culture are at the heart of what we do. We recognise the unique impact our employees have on not only our clients, but also our colleagues and the communities in which we operate in. Our success is dependent on every colleague behaving consistently across all four of our values: Passion, Trust, Honesty, and Humanity.

We have plans for growth and are looking for motivated individuals to join our growing team to help us get there!

The Role

We are now recruiting for 2 rising stars to join our growing Payroll Academy across our offices in Carlisle (Head Office) and Newcastle.

We are offering the successful candidates the opportunity to complete a Level 3 apprenticeship whilst learning on-the-job with some highly experienced Payroll professionals.

Payroll is the beating heart of any organisation and here at Armstrong Watson we are the beating heart for our clients and their employees. You will be part of a fun, strong and committed team where you will learn what it is to be a competent Payroll professional.

The start date for our successful candidates will be Monday 11 September 2023.

The Candidate

In order to apply for this Payroll Apprenticeship opportunity, candidates must possess a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C (9 - 4) or above (and this must include Maths and English) and also be within reasonable commuting distance from their chosen office.

As well as complying with the above basic requirements, we want candidates who demonstrate a positive and “can do” attitude, and who want to help ensure that our clients are happy. You need to have a friendly approach and a willingness to learn and enhance your life skills. Those who love Payroll will have a fantastic and rewarding career ahead of them.

Recruitment Process & How to Apply

If you think this is the right opportunity for you, please apply online with our simple application form where you will also be asked to upload a copy of your current CV.

The closing date for applications to be submitted is midnight on Sunday 18 June 2023.

Shortlisted applications will be invited to complete a short online assessment. The online assessment will be emailed to successful candidates on Wednesday 21 June 2023 by a member of our Talent Acquisition Team and there will be a set deadline of Sunday 2 July 2023.

After successful completion of the online assessment stage, candidates will be invited to attend one of our Assessment Centres. We will be conducting an Assessment Centre at our Newcastle office on Tuesday 18 July 2023, and an Assessment Centre at our Head Office in Carlisle on Wednesday 19 July 2023. Our Assessment Centres will be conducted by 2 of our own Payroll professionals: Tracey Baldam (Senior Operations Payroll Manager) and Samantha Mann (Payroll Training Consultant).
