Amey Consulting are currently looking to recruit a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Consulting North Rail team. With offices located in Manchester, Derby, York and Edinburgh, we welcome applications from Engineers across these regions.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer at Amey Consulting you’ll be part of a growing team of over 500 employees contributing to the delivery of one of the biggest rail infrastructure projects to come to the North.
You will be a key part of the team and take responsibility for the effective and efficient delivery of projects including The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU). The TRU project is a multibillion-pound transformative programme that will improve connectivity between Manchester and Leeds and also bring better journeys to passengers.


The standard hours of work are 37.5 per week. Work-life balance and flexibility are key for our success. You will be responsible for:

  • Providing mentorship to junior design engineers
  • Supervise and check electrical designs
  • Planning surveys and leading site survey teams
  • Demonstrating a sound understanding of the design process
  • Ability to undertake design work for electrical and lighting installations
  • Undertaking CDM/risk analyses
  • Checking designs to ensure all contractual requirements have been satisfied to a level that complies with Network Rail, British and European Standards
  • Managing the Electrical Power design for small projects
  • Undertaking design cost estimates
  • Developing and mentoring junior staff
  • Deputising for the CRE when required

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Bachelors’ or Masters’ degree in electrical / power (or related) engineering
  • Member of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) and having either Incorporated or Chartered status
  • 18th Edition of BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Network Rail, British and European electrical and lighting Standards
  • Good understanding of systems engineering
  • Good understanding of CDM and CSM processes
  • Good understanding of project and engineering management processes and structures
  • Extensive experience working in electrical design, preferably in railway electrical power design (e.g.signalling power, points heating, HV, lighting and building services, etc.)
  • An ability to identify innovative solutions to problems, with an interest in the application and promotion of energy reduction techniques
  • Some experience with leading teams during site surveys
