Job Description Summary
Job Description
Public Relations Manager
Closing Date - 22nd March 2023
People are living longer than ever before, and we’re excited by the opportunities this brings. As a purpose-led business, we’re focused on supporting our customers as they navigate through new stages of their lives and all the moments that matter. We’re here for everyone who wants to make the most of their time on the planet and leave it a little better than they found it – however grand or humble their ambitions. Working at Aegon, you’ll play an important part in helping achieve this. We have three behaviors that are central to how we operate as a team and a business: we step up, we tune in and we’re a force for good.
The Team
We have an exciting opportunity for a PR Manager to join our Marketing team. Reporting to the Head of Public Relations, the PR Manager will play a vital role in delivering initiatives designed to transform and elevate Public Relations in Aegon.
The Role
Aegon is looking to recruit a PR manager that will be responsible for promoting Aegon’s proposition across its channels. In addition to promoting specific business lines, a significant part of the role will be ensuring Aegon is viewed as a leading expert on long-term savings and pensions issues across a wide range of media. This will involve developing and implementing campaigns both around products and broader thought leadership issues and working closely with our Public Affairs team to anticipate and respond to the regulatory and economic news agenda relevant to Aegon. In addition, there will be an element of corporate communications on broader Aegon news as well as the day to day managing in-bound questions from the media.
Key responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a PR programme designed to promote Aegon’s pensions, investment and protection propositions across a broad range of media including key trade and national titles
  • Identify opportunities that allow Aegon to discuss broader pensions and savings issues which matter to our customers, employers and the advisers who support them
  • Support a programme of activity designed to keep Aegon spokespeople front of mind on a broad range of long-term savings and investment issues
  • Oversee and implement campaigns on key thought leadership topics such as Aegon’s focus on financial wellbeing
  • Manage in bound press questions in relation to our overall product offering, but also Aegon’s wider business
  • Ensure all press materials are compliant and are clearly scheduled
  • Identify reputational risks and develop appropriate press materials
Skills
  • Ability to create clear and engaging written materials
  • A confident communicator able to explain complex subject matter to journalists and senior stakeholders
  • Excellent judgement when it comes to understanding media risks and opportunities
  • The ability to work flexibly and reprioritise tasks according to urgency
  • A creative thinker able to identify multiple solutions to a problem
Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of traditional, online and social media and how it operates
  • A background in financial services is desirable, ideally with an understanding of the pensions, asset management and financial advice sectors
  • Strong contacts in relevant media
